Kittie Moss Fairey Education Fund Scholarship

The Kittie Moss Fairey Scholarship provides scholarship for deserving students in South Carolina.

Application Process:

  • There are 2 parts t the application process:
    • You must set up an account and complete the online application.
      • Once you have done this you will get an email back confirming receipt of the online portion of your application and reminding you to complete step 2.
    • You must mail in the additional required materials. (see list below)

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

  • The initial selection will be based on the eligibility criteria as follows:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in or planning to attend full time and accredited two year or four year college or university in the state of South Carolina.
  • The ideal candidate will:
    • Be a resident of South Carolina.
    • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale through the spring 2018 semester.
    • Demonstrate a financial need.

When is the deadline for submission of materials?

  • The deadline for submission of the online portion of the application is January 15, 2019.  Deadline of the additional required material is 5:00 p.m.. EST January 15, 2019.  
  • The additional materials must be mailed in ONE envelope to the Kitty Moss Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship, 4320 Wade Hampton Blvd., STE G, Taylors, SC 29687.  The additional materials required must be received no later than 5:00 p. EST January 15, 2019.

What constitutes a complete application packet?

  • You must submit the following additional materials found in the online application.
    • An OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT with grades and cumulative GPA posted through the latest Spring semester.
    • Submit SAT/ACT SCORES.
    • A PERSONAL STATEMENT/ESSAY. Submit a one page personal statement explaining why the scholarship is important to the applicant.  Include college and career plans, if known.  Include applicant name and name of scholarship page.
    • A completed W-8 OR 2-9 FORM, as applicable.  This form must be completed by the applicant.
    • A copy of your SAR REPORT (Student Aid Report). This is the report you receive after completing your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

What is the value of the scholarship award?

  • The number of recipients and the amount of each scholarship may vary from year to year due to fluctuations in the Fund's value and/or applicable document restrictions.  Subject to the trust terms, the awards will be applied up to 1/2 of tuition, room and board and should not exceed these costs.  Scholarship awards must be used in the year they are awarded.  Failure to submit the required materials will result in the permanent loss of the scholarship.  Unused funds must be returned to the Kittie Moss Fairey Scholarship Fund.

What schools can a recipient attend?

  • The recipients may attend any accredited college, university, technical, trade or professional school, located in South Carolina, in any field of study leading to a degree, diploma or certificate, provided the institution meets the criteria in the following paragraph.  Recipients must be enrolled full time each semester and working towards and undergraduate degree.
  • An eligible educational institution is one whose primary function is the presentation of formal instruction and that normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance at the place where it carries on its educational activities.

What if I am unable to attend consecutive semesters?

  • Extenuating circumstances requiring a student to sit out a semester must be explained in writing to CSA.  You will be notified of the final decision.  IF a recipient is out for a semester then that semester is forfeited.

How are winners selected?

  • An Awards Advisory Committee will consider the respective ability, educational goals, financial need and career ambitions of each applicant.

How will I be notified if I am chosen as a recipient?

  • Once final approval has been given by the Trustee, CSA will e-mail award letters to the recipients with detailed information about the scholarship.  Candidates not selected to receive awards will also be notified by CSA via email.

Is this scholarship renewable?

  • This scholarship is a 4 year scholarship subject to the following terms and conditions:
    • Recipients must pass all courses
    • Remain in good academic standing
    • Attend a school within South Carolina
