Hello! I am thrilled to be a part of the GTCHS family again this year!
The first thing I would like for you to know about me is that I believe leadership is behavioral and all students have the ability to lead. I believe that leadership is something we DO. I believe leadership is NOT exclusive. Wait, but that doesn't sound like it has anything do to with our English or Internship class. Well, it does. In my classroom, students have the chance to lead every day during class discussions, group activities, and presentations. Every student has a voice worth hearing in the 214 (that's what I call my classroom).
The second thing I would like for you to know about me is that I love literature (that should be obvious, right?), and I believe literature has the power to transform us and to create positive change. In the 214, we read stories that are similar to ours, but we also push ourselves to consider new views and experiences by spending time with texts and voices from around the globe. Through poetry, we reflect on and attempt to translate our own experiences. By examining powerful rhetoric, we learn what it takes to mobilize people and make change happen.
Finally, I want you to know that I am a former college student-athlete (All-American, too!) and enjoy bringing a team approach to learning. Yes, I am a teacher, but I also recognize that WE are one team, working together to learn. I value accountability and collaboration and incorporate these elements into every class period. Of course, I love a little bit of friendly competition, too! Get ready for some fun, friendly competition this year!
The most important thing you should probably know is that I'm excited about working with you this year! Let's make this an awesome year, Warriors!
Mrs. M
