Questions with Answers Enrollment Form Smart Center Brochure

The Smart Center is an additional academic assistance program at Greenville Tech Charter High School.  It is designed to offer its members an after school educational setting where they will do homework, read, complete written assignments, study and use computers for research and projects. 

Students may come to the Smart Center as needed. On days that they attend the Center, students should report by 3:30 pm and will be released when parents arrive to pick up students. Parents must pick up student by 5:30 p.m. If students drive themselves, they can sign out at 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
 

The Smart Center:
 

  • Is open to all GTCHS students
  • Is open Monday-Thursday
    7:20-8:00 am
    3:10-5:30 pm
  • Applications available in the front office
  • *Provides students access to computers
     
  • Provides snacks and occasional outings
     
  • Includes membership in the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs

‘Questions with Answers’

Q Where is the smart center located?

A: In Dr. Nash’s room (Room118) in the morning, and in AH 109 in the afternoon.

Q: What are the attendance requirements—must I sign in?

A: You may attend the Smart Center on an as-needed basis; Students must sign in for the afternoon session between school dismissal and 3: 30 PM.  Students attending academic assistance sessions may report to the smart center upon completion of an assistance session verified by teacher signature.

Q: Is any refreshment provided?

A: Yes, a snack is provided daily.

Q: How long must I stay in smart center? 

A: In the morning, students may leave the center as early as 7:45 AM.  In the afternoon, students may leave when a parent arrives.  The Security officer and the Smart Center director then communicate by radio, in order that the student is notified and can safely exit the Smart Center to his/her parent.  Students must be picked up no later than 5:30 PM. Upperclassmen who have school driving privileges and parent permission on file may leave when their tasks are completed.  If an upperclassman chooses this option, he/she may not extend this privilege to any other student.

Q: How will studying be accommodated? 

A:  A daily routine will be established.  The routine will include organizational tasks, refreshment, guided group discussion and quiet studying (one hour minimum).  A variety of interesting, applicable, enriching and relaxing activities will be available, following the required study time.

Q:  Will I have any homework help?

A:   Tutors for the core areas of instruction will be scheduled to provide assistance to the student. Students are recommended to attend the academic assistance sessions and follow through by reporting to smart center afterwardsGroup study sessions for specialized needs will be provided. The computer lab will be available with appropriate monitoring and assistance.

Q: What types of trips are planned for this year?

A:   The trips that are being considered include areas of interest in Greenville, GTCHS sports, and campus walks. Serious suggestions are welcomed.

Q:  Can the Smart Center benefit my child?

A:   The center promotes academic success by providing tutorial help with homework and long-term assignments from professional, certified teachers.  If your child is willing to expand his/her interests, the center provides many different activities associated with hobbies, crafts, personal interest and life enrichment.
