Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):  Before you start completing the FAFSA online on January 1, 2007, you and your parents should apply for a PIN.  Go to www.pin.ed.gov  Your PIN will be e-mailed to you within 1-5 days or sent to your mailing address with 7-10 days.  You can print a Pre-Application Worksheet to help you with the online FAFSA (it differs from the paper FAFSA).  It should be available now at www.studentaid.ed.gov

Urban League Scholarship Program - This is an excellent opportunity for minority students. Deadline to be announced.  If interested, please see guidance for an application.

Burger King “Fries to be Wise” Scholarship- It is for students who wish to further their education by attending a college in Business Administration or Hospitality and Tourism. Deadline to be announced.  See Mrs. Allen for applications.

NEW!! J.P. Coates/SCACT Scholarship- This scholarship is awarded annually to encourage promising young people to prepare for careers in education. $1000 scholarships are awarded to students attending South Carolina four-year colleges and universities. Deadline to be announced.

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship- provides up to $1500 per year for up to four years to qualified high school seniors from a representative population of SC who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and show promise of continued academic achievement at a post-secondary institution. GTCHS may submit up to 4 nominations for this scholarship. Interested students should see Ms. McCartney.

Papa John’s Annual College Scholarship Program - rewards college scholarships to high school students employed by Papa John’s. These qualified students employees receive a $500 scholarship for each full year of work. See the scholarship notebook in guidance for details.

Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Program - Blanchard and Florence-Darlington Technical College offer a unique program which qualifies students with a two-year Associate Degree and gives individuals the skills to build a foundation for a very rewarding and lucrative career as a Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician.

For African American Students -There are roughly 50 scholarship opportunities for African American students. For more information contact the guidance office

Anderson University - The Leadership scholarship is available for students with leadership abilities (involvement in student government, clubs, volunteer work, etc) and academic achievement. Deadline to be announced.

Wofford College - The Bonnors Scholars Program offers scholarships to students who are committed to community service and who have extensive financial need. These students should have between 1150-1320 on the SAT or an equivalent on the ACT.

Randolph-Macon College - Presidential Scholars currently receive $5,000-$15,000 in annual scholarships, which are renewable for four years. Scholarship recipients typically have a strong record of success in challenging academic courses in high school. Opportunities include a mentoring program, consideration for the distinguished Honor’s Program, and preferential course selection.

SC Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship Program- offers scholarship aid to deserving students who meet certain academic criteria. Students must have a 2.75 GAP, be a SC resident and have a competitive or recreational interest in Golf.

Ronald House Charities - provides scholarships for students who may not have the finances necessary. Three Scholarship programs are available. RMHC (Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources), RMHC/African American Future Achievers, and RMHC/Acia (Asian-Pacific Students Increasing Achievement). USC - Departmental scholarship applications for the College of Engineering and Information Technology are awarded to freshmen on the basis of ACT/SAT scores, and high school class rank. Applications are considered if students indicate this as their first choice of major when applying to the university. Scholarships range from $500-$750 per semester. Deadline to be announced.

James F. Byrnes College Scholarship Program - The Byrnes scholarship is available to students who have lost one or both parents and who plan to seek a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. Students must be SC residents and US citizens, have a satisfactory academic record, and have need for financial assistance in order to attend college. Deadline to be announced.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers' Foundation - offers scholarships of $10,000-$1000 in an essay contest. This year's topic:
For years South Carolina law enforcement professionals have supported a primary enforcement seatbelt law. However, the General Assembly has failed to pass such legislation. What impact does this issue have on our state, you, your family and friends? Please provide your opinion, along with research data and information from current events to support your position. Deadline is to be announced.

Dixie Youth Baseball, Inc. Scholarship - awards 50 $2000 scholarships to students who have participated in a Dixie Youth Baseball program when 12 years old or younger. Scholarship and Financial need are criteria. Deadline to be announced.

South Carolina Sheriff's Association - will award 4 $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors attending the school of their choice in South Carolina. Additional Scholarships of $2000 are available for children of law enforcement officers. The competition consists of an essay of 1000 words on the Future Role of the Sheriff in Homeland Security.  Deadline is March 1.

NEW!! Charleston Post and Courier Minority Scholarship- awarded to students seeking careers in the newspaper business. The scholarship is $6000 per year and covers tuition, room and board to the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications in Columbia.

Sirrine Scholarships Applications Now Available
This program, for graduates of Greenville County High Schools, provides $200-$2000 scholarships to students who qualify on the basis of financial need and academic ability. Application deadline is to be announced.

Susan Scott Lynch Scholarship - is awarded to Greater Greenville Area High School Seniors, who meet certain rigid criteria such as academics and leadership potential. Consideration for scholarship funds is determined by a scholarship application, available in the scholarship notebook in guidance. Criteria include academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to community, character, and essay content. Deadline is to be announced.

College Scholarship for Hearing Impaired Students- K. Todd Houston and SC Chapter AG Bell Association scholarship for Oral Hearing-Impaired students offers a $1500 scholarship. Deadline to be announced.

The Greenville Tech Foundation, Inc. Scholarships- Approximately 60 different scholarships are available (as listed in the Greenville Technical College Handbook).  Interested students can contact Greenville Tech's Financial Aid Office or guidance.

Target All-Around Scholarship – 4 winners at $10,000; 2100 winners at $1000.  Apply at www.target.com or a Target store.

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Competition (S.C. Dept of Education) - $4000; Must compete in one of four areas; creative writing, drama, music or visual arts.
